Day 11/100 - things I have learnt so far from building my personal portfolio site.

Good day 🌄☺️

Today is Day 11 of #100DaysOfCode. I start by thanking the Almighty for making it possible to cross the first 10 days, and I pray I'm given the strength to finish this challenge and even jump on harder ones. No rest till we make it 🥺.

I worked on making my portfolio site better. Yesterday, after deploying the website, I checked its performance, SEO, best practices, etc on lighthouse, they were so poor that I had to remove unnecessary animations and stylings, and I made sure to write very little JavaScript.

I'm happy to say that the website has gotten a lot better than its initial state. But I haven't published the latest code because I'm currently struggling with media queries. I found out that the font sizes are too small to be seen without focusing them on the retina with deep concentration.

These are the list of things I've learnt from building my personal portfolio site

  • Your personal website is assumed to contain the full capacity of yours, as you are expected to put in your energy to the fullest. It is what represents you out there.

  • Performance is very important. Your personal portfolio site is a reflection of who you are. Do you pay attention to details or not? Are you very careful with projects or not? Have you been building projects for the mass or for yourself?. I can't trust you with projects if your portfolio site is very slow, is faulty, or hard to navigate around.

  • Regardless of being a backend developer or frontend developer, learn web development, so it is easy to present your projects.

  • Include everything you know you've done, be it small or big.

  • CSS is not for child's play 🥲
